CPPPH 2nd Annual Workshop: Effective Functioning of Wellbeing Committees

Saturday, November 4, 2017 – USC Medical Center – Inpatient Tower, Los Angeles CA

8:30 AM – 4:30 PM

This daylong workshop is designed for all who are interested in strengthening wellbeing committees and learning how to take full advantage of what they can do.

Attendees will learn: 

  • How you handle the first meeting with a physician when it is about disruptive behavior or aging.

  • What records the committee should keep.

  • What the committee should be reporting to the MEC and what medical staff bylaws say about it.

This year’s workshop is based on case discussions with experienced leaders and health care attorneys.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Early Bird Registration – $375.00 (Ends 10/13/17)
General Registration – $450.00

A reduced rate of $75 per person is available for groups of 3 or more from the same institution.

Registration is limited; early registration is recommended. 

Cancellations received in writing on or before 10/13/17 are subject to a $50 cancellation fee. No refunds will be provided for cancellations after 10/13/17. Substitutions or credit may be arranged for future workshops.

Speakers

David Balfour, JD

Mr. Balfour, Partner at Nossaman LLP San Diego.  

 

 

Tom Curtis, JD

Mr. Curtis, Chair of the Health Care Practice Group of the law firm of Nossaman, LLP, has handled more than 200 medical staff disciplinary proceedings. He represents medical staffs, medical groups, and other healthcare entities on a wide range of issues including medical staff peer review proceedings, licensing proceedings, writ proceedings, State and Federal Court civil litigation.

Karen Miotto, MD

Dr. Miotto is director of the UCLA Addiction Medicine Service and Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, David Geffen School of Medicine. She has chaired the Medical Staff Health Committee at UCLA since 2008 and is Chair of the Board of CPPPH. She is frequently an invited speaker at local and national meetings on physician health. 

Marcia Nelson, MD

Dr. Nelson is Chief Medical Officer at Enloe Medical Center in Chico where her work focuses on physician leadership and quality. Her roles at Enloe have included Chief of Staff, Chair of Family Practice Department and Chair of the IRB.

Laurie Reynard, MD

Dr. Reynard has chaired the Wellbeing Committee at Providence St. John’s Medical Center in Santa Monica for the last five years. She has a private practice of obstetrics and gynecology in Santa Monica.

John Rosenberg, MD

Dr. Rosenberg, a psychiatrist with the Berkeley Therapy Institute Physician Evaluation and Assessment Team, specializes in comprehensive evaluations of physicians and other healthcare professionals. He has served as president of the medical staff of Alta Bates Medical Center in Berkeley and continues to serve on that hospital’s Wellbeing Committee.

Robin Seaberg, MD

Dr. Seaborg has been a member of the UCSD Wellbeing Committee for over 20 years and had chaired the Committee for the last 7 years. She is on the Board of Directors of the California Society of Anesthesiologists and member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists Chemical Dependency Advisory Group.
